Legendary Mexican Icon Vicente Fernández Dead at 81

The Hispanic community worldwide is grieving the loss of Mariachi Legend Vicente Fernández.

The Mexican icon, known for popular hits like “Volver, Volver,” “El Rey” and “Por Tu Maldito Amor,” about love, life, and loss has died in a hospital in Guadalajara in his native state of Jalisco.

Fernández, also known as “Chente” by his beloved fans, sold about 65 million albums throughout his career, took home 3 Grammys, 8 Latin Grammys, and also starred in more than 35 movies.

Over the last decade “El Rey” experienced several health issues and in 2012 underwent surgery to remove a cancerous growth. Earlier this year he suffered from a fall on his ranch.

The King of Ranchera music will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his contributions to the Mexican culture and the Latin community around the world.
